The first part of my title above is not a typo. Many people say LEEDS Certification and they search for LEEDS or LEEDS AP or LEEDS Certification. When I first started hearing this I thought it was just a Southern California thing or maybe even just a Los Angeles or Orange County thing but now I’m hearing people from New York and Texas say LEEDS instead of LEED. Is there a resource on the web that has mistaken LEED for LEEDS or is just that people have a natural tendency to add a ’s’ to the standard?
Its bad enough that LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, also brings up Low-energy electron diffraction, LEED Publishing Co. (a Japanese publishing company established in 1974), and Leed (a Coke Lemonade like soft drink). Then there’s the fact that the LEED Green Building standard is administered by the USGBC. That’s the United States Green Building Council which is both a National and local chapter organization. Now if you want to become LEED certified, well, that’s a job for GBCI. The Green Building Certification Institute doesn’t actually administer the test thought. So if you want to become LEEDS Certified (Oh, I mean LEED certified) you’ll actually have to take the exam through a PROMETRIC testing center. PROMETRIC, according to Wikipedia, is a company that possesses significant market share in the test administration industry. Ok, I agree they do have nice testing centers.
Anyways, I haven’t even delved into what LEED NC, CI, EB, ND, H, etc. really means except to say that I completely understand how and why someone new to LEED would ask for LEEDS or be looking to become LEEDS certified. Well, either way, if you want to become LEED Certified or LEEDS Certified, Everblue Energy can help. Visit our LEED Exam Prep Seminars Page to learn more.
