Anyone can take the BPI Certification Exam

  • Submitted by Everblue on Tue, 11/10/2009 - 16:02.
    Hello,

Yes, anyone can take the BPI Certification Exam. For the BPI Building Analyst there are no pre-requisites. Although, if you are new to the industry you will have to work harder to master the terminology and study more to understand the core concepts in order to be successful on the BPI exam.

As for the computer, you will need one on the day of your test. If you do not have one, contact us and we can help make arrangements.

We look forward to having you in class.

BPI Qualified Manufacturer?

  • Submitted by Brad E. (not verified) on Thu, 06/03/2010 - 14:49.
My question regarding becoming a BPI qualified Manufacturer to supply the BPI certified contractors. Would Solar Air Heating Panels qualify for BPI?

BPI Certification for Manufacturers

  • Submitted by Everblue on Sun, 06/27/2010 - 16:28.
    Brad,

Unfortunately, BPI only certifies individuals and home performance contractors. The standards do not apply to specific, individual products, although you could target your sales and marketing to the BPI Building Analysts and Home Performance Contractors that would be installing your products.

We have many manufacturer representatives get BPI and LEED certified so that they can understand the programs and the program-specific terminology. Once you understand how BPI and LEED Certification works, you can be much more effective with your sales efforts.

Starting an Energy Consulting Business

  • Submitted by Tameka (not verified) on Mon, 09/13/2010 - 15:04.
I would like to start an Energy Consulting business for small businesses and homeowners. Can you tell me if having this specific certification will increase my chances on being suitable for opening this type of business? If so, what other certifications would you recommend that I pursue?

Starting an Energy Consulting Business

  • Submitted by Everblue on Tue, 09/14/2010 - 10:01.
    Tameka,

Earning the LEED Green Associate credential would be the perfect way to learn more about what's involved with starting a consulting business! You learn the rating systems set up by the U.S. Green Building Council to provide a benchmark for sustainable building.

The other credential you would want to earn is the BPI Building Analyst which is hands on and teaches you how to retrofit existing homes to be more energy efficient. You learn how to walk through a home and assess the energy saving needs of a homeowner.

    Thank you!

We are happy to hear that you and your neighbor are excited about Everblue's BPI program!

While we provide quality training and study materials to prepare you for your BPI Building Analyst certification, we do not provide job placement. We would suggest that you look at the many green job websites out there. Www.greenjobs.com and www.sustainablebusiness.com are just a few sites to check out.

    Thanks!

I am interested in signing up for BPI Building Analyst and Envelope Training. My concern is the cost for equipment needed to work in the field. Is it included in the fee or if not whats the average cost for the equipment needed to get started?

equipment

  • Submitted by Everblue on Fri, 04/01/2011 - 08:16.
    Hello,

Everblue's BPI Building Analyst course includes the field training equipment you will need in class. But students do need to purchase their own equipment after class to run their businesses. You can find the estimated cost of equipment on BPI's website here:

    http://bpi.org/file/pdf/BPI_Energy_Audit_testing_equipment_checklist.pdf

And keep in mind, this is a general range of costs. You can always shop around online and find good deals on the equipment.

    Thanks,

how much can you make per month?

  • Submitted by Bana@Everblue on Mon, 06/13/2011 - 12:57.
    Thanks for your question.

How much you make as an energy auditor depends on a few factors. One of which is where you are located and what the industry rate in you area is. The other is whether you choose to work for a company (where you may receive an hourly rate) or you work for yourself. Should you work for yourself, expect to charge $200-$500 per audit. If you also offer retrofitting after the audit, the retrofit is typically between $1200 - $5000.

    Thank you,
    Bana
