Opportunities with the ResNet Program
I have been investigating the potential for certifications with BPI and ResNet in so far as the employment possibilities that come available with this training. As yet I have found no indication that there is indeed any opportunity forthcoming from this sort of certification program. Home owners are under great duress financially and new construction in my area is either slow or many new builds remain unoccupied. This condition I might add is present in an economically sound area of the midwest. Seems good in theory but I present the question, has anyone continued into any gainful employment or found a demand in this area as an independent contractor in the field of Energy Field Auditor, or is this more about promoting a program for the benefit for the institute conducting the training only.

Opportunities with the ResNet Program
Thank you for your thoughtful question. The housing market has indeed affected new construction related employment. However, the reaction to it has resulted in many new employment opportunities as well. Many homeowners are now choosing to upgrade their current homes rather than buy new ones. Energy audits are sought after in order to pinpoint those upgrades effectively. For this reason many BPI Building Analysts and RESNET HERS Raters have seen a large increase in demand across the nation.

You will need a laptop on your fourth day of training to take your written exam. The exam must be taken on a pc-laptop with an Everblue exam proctor.

Certification in Canada
Is there a difference in the courses offered in Canada vs. the ones in the U.S? It appears that you are an American company; Does your course entitle one to be certified to conduct this type of work in Canada? (specifically the building auditor certification) Thank you.

Michigan BPI Certification
I live in Michigan, but there are no BPI classes offered in MI. If I take the BPI exam in another state am I BPI certified in Michigan?

BPI Certification is a national certification so it does not matter where you earn the credential. If you earned the credential in Chicago then it would still be valid in Michigan.
BPI Training Transportation?
I just wanted to know if a personal vehicle will be needed for BPI field testing and such, or if you can arrive at the BPI training and be transported as part of the training.

The BPI field training occurs at local houses near the classroom address. While a car/mass transit would be required, it is possible for you to get a ride from the instructor or other students if you are traveling in.

Hello. While the BPI Building Analyst and the RESNET HERS Rater Certification overlap in terms of the basic building science, they are separate certifications that require separate courses and testing. We do have combination discounts if you are interested in both courses.

Everblue's BPI Building Analyst pass rate for the BPI written and field exams is over 90%, so we are pretty confident that retaking the exams won't be necessary! But since you are asking, the BPI written and field exams can be taken up to 3 times in one year.

Do I have to have a laptop for the BPI Course? I have a home cpu and I would hate to sign up and then have to drop because I don't have laptop.

I see on this page that Windows laptops are required for the exam following the course. My MacBook has a Windows emulator and runs Windows XP Pro perfectly. Is that acceptable?

This is a good question. A Mac does not work when taking the test because of the browser required to access the LEED Green Associate and LEED AP exams. The problem is not related to Windows. You can rent a laptop, however, if you do not have access to one. Many of our students with Macs have gone this route.

Is the only requirement to pay the fee($1500-$1700) complete the course, and pass the test? There is no equipment to buy up front?

There is no equipment to buy up front. We provide all of the equipment that you need for training and certification. If you are looking to become a rater you will have to invest in equipment at some point but plenty of people earn RESNET Certification and never purchase equipment. We see many utility employees, contractors looking to improve the quality of their work, code officials, architects and many others come through the training as well.
