Why take the BPI Building Analyst & Envelope Combo Course?

An individual who pursues one BPI credential is known to be BPI Certified. An individual becomes a BPI Accredited contractor after having acquired the BPI Building Analyst credential as well as one advanced specialty designation. In most cases, certified BPI Building Analysts will pursue the BPI Envelope Professional credential because the concepts are closely related. More and more federal, state and local energy efficiency and weatherization programs are requiring contractors working on a project to be BPI Accredited.

Upon achieving both BPI certifications, an individual can register his or her business with the Building Performance Institute in order to qualify for BPI Accreditation. Some programs offer energy efficiency incentives to the BPI Accredited business or contractor for the work that has been done.

Everblue created the first BPI combo class with both BPI Building Analyst and BPI Envelope Professional certification training and testing during one week, helping you save time and money. Under normal circumstances, you earn one BPI Certification at a time, but with the combo class, you'll save 3 days, save $395, and increase your chances of passing the exams by taking them together.

BPI Combo Course Question

I live in Northern California and you have this combo course scheduled in September. I am not a licensed contractor and yet want to start up a consulting business that provides energy efficiency audits and performance recommendations to homeowners and small building owners. I want to be certified properly so the rating or audit I provide will qualify the owners for the HomeStar incentives.

Is the combo course a good place to start? What other courses would I need? Is the six days enough time for a novice to get all the info and become successful (pass the tests)?

BPI Certification Combo Course Question

    Bruce,

Hello. The BPI Combo course is a very intense course jam packed with building science and BPI standards. In the six day combined course you will have a solid understanding of basic building science, energy auditing, and the BPI standards. Additionally, you will be able to earn two BPI Certification in those six days. Overall, we have a 96% first time pass rate and we train many non-construction industry students.

However, if you are looking to come into the field without prior experience the training course and BPI Certification is really just a starting point in the process. You will need to gain additional experience on the job in a home. For example, I would recommend a weatherization training course which will get you hands on with the various materials. We have many successful students that transitioned from other industries into Energy Auditing so you can be successful but it will require hard work to learn the industry. Overall, learning the basics of building science and earning BPI Certification is a great way to get started.

    Thank you,
    Everblue

What text books can I obtain to begin preparing to take your course to maximize the benefits of the week?

There are no books you need to purchase to prepare for the BPI course. You gain access to pre-course reading material in your Everblue account when you register, and this gives you plenty of information from BPI to prepare you including their list of BPI standards.

    Thanks!

Are you getting the BPI Certification by taking this course?

BPI Certification

  • Submitted by Bana@Everblue on Mon, 06/13/2011 - 10:31.
Hello and thank you for your question.

During this course you will take a BPI written exam and BPI field exam. Upon passing your exam you will be BPI certified. Students will know whether they passed their written exam as soon as they complete it, but will have to wait 4-6 weeks to hear back from the Building Performance Institute on the passing of their field exam. When a student becomes BPI certified, they receive official documentation from the Building Performance Institute showing this. This documentation includes a BPI identification card and certificate of completion.

    Thank you,
    Bana

Good afternoon, I live in Wisconsin and I was thinking about the combo course coming to madison at the end of the month. I'm taking the test to be a licensed Home inspector and I was wondering if the combo course would be a good fit or just the energy audit course. I really want to be the best and help people with their homes, what do you think?

    Thank you very much,
    Leonard Smith

BPI Combo course

  • Submitted by Bana@Everblue on Mon, 06/13/2011 - 10:41.
    Hello Leonard,

Thank you for your question. Most Everblue students take the combination course for several reasons:

    1) It is a good value for money
    2) It is easier to get two BPI certifications in one week rather than separately
    3) Having two certifications may qualify you for government grants. To learn more, see our State by State Energy Resource Guide
    4) Having the Envelope-Shell advanced BPI
certification allows you to offer a more in-depth energy audit
    5) An advanced certification can separate you from your competitors.

    Thank you,
    Bana
