Is Green Associate Required for LEED AP O+M

  • Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 04/30/2010 - 08:50.
Is LEED Green Associate required for LEED AP O+M. Here is the Quoted requirements from GBCI: "Eligibility Requirements To take the LEED AP exams, you must have previous experience (see the Definition of “personal involvment with a LEED project” section below), within three years of your application submittal date, on a project registered for LEED certification. This work experience must be documented through LEED Online* or in the form of a letter of attestation from a supervisor, client, or project manager and must describe your involvement on the LEED Project as a consultant, contracted worker, member of the LEED Project Team, LEED Homes Provider, LEED Commercial Reviewer, LEED Homes Green Verifier, or staff member of a Certifying Body (CB)." Can someone show some more valid information?

LEED GA is Required

  • Submitted by admin on Fri, 04/30/2010 - 11:31.
Great question about the LEED GA Exam requirement. The LEED GA exam is a pre-requisite for the LEED AP O+M exam. The section above references the fact that you can sign up for both exams simultaneously and even take them together on the same day. However, your first two hour time block will be spent on the LEED Green Associate and then you'll spend two hours on the LEED AP O+M exam. To earn LEED AP O+M, you'll have to pass both exams.

We don't recommend taking this approach for a two reasons. First, each exam is difficult enough and covers related but different content. We recommend that you prepare for and take them separately to maximize your chances of passing. Second, if you take them together but fail either exam, then you earn neither credential, even if you just passed the LEED GA Exam - this is a very odd rule, but it is the rule.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

I am a LEED AP (passed exam

  • Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 04/07/2010 - 16:34.
I am a LEED AP (passed exam in March 2009). I want to get AP+O&M specialty now. How do i go about it? GBCI said sign up for CMP and Everblue's classes will count towards the 30 hours required to get the specialty creditation without taking any further exams. Is that true?

All of our LEED courses qualify for the CMP reporting program which helps you upgrade your credential to a LEED AP specialty credential.

LEED Material Resource and Recycling Credits

LEED has a number of credit categories and points available for reusing material (like asphalt), landfill diversion, and regionally sourced materials.  I recommend that you start with the LEED Green Associate course which is the best introduction to LEED.

So to be clear...

The new process is you become a green associate first a more general exam then you choose a more specific area to get your LEED AP in, such as O&M?

LEED Green Associate First Then LEED AP

  • Submitted by Everblue on Sun, 02/07/2010 - 10:49.
The LEED Green Associate is required before proceeding to a LEED AP Speciality exam.  Our live instruction LEED Green Associate classes come with 20-30 hours of self-study materials and we recommend that students study with for 2-3 weeks after the course.  At the end of the exam, you know immediately whether or not you've passed the exam so you can then start to focus on the LEED AP specialty of your choice.

Technically, you can take both the LEED GA and a LEED AP exam in the same four hour sitting.  However, each exam is independently difficult enough and, if you take them together and fail either one, then the GBCI awards neither credential.  So if you took the exams simultaneously and even if you pass the LEED GA exam but failed the LEED BD&C exam, you would not have earned LEED GA.  Unfortunately, these are the testing rules and, besides, who would really want to have the unwanted stress of studying for both tests at the same time?

Are there progressive steps to accreditation?

I am a Project Manager for a commercial GC, do I have to take the associate exam prior to attempting the AP O+M exam?

The Green Associate is Required before taking a LEED Exam

  • Submitted by Everblue on Wed, 01/20/2010 - 05:43.
The Green Associate is required before taking your LEED AP Exam.  You can take the exams in the same four hour sitting but we do not recommend that approach.   Instead, we recommend that you take the exams separately so that you can adequately prepare for each exam.  Additionally, according to the GBCI exam rules, if you take the exams together and fail either one, then you would earn neither credential.
