Solar photovoltaic technology (PV) utilizes light-sensitive materials to convert solar radiation into direct current electricity. These materials are arranged in modules composed of individual cells. As light strikes these cells, electrons are excited and begin flowing as electricity through the conducting material.
Solar heating (solar thermal) technology converts solar radiation into useful heat energy. This heat energy can be used in a variety of applications ranging from heating your home’s water tank to creating steam to drive a turbine generating electricity.
Wind Energy Defined
Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy. These include wind turbines generating electricity, windmills producing mechanical power to pump water or grinding grain, as well as sails to propel ships. Wind power, as an alternative to fossil fuels, is plentiful, renewable, clean, produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation, and uses little land.
