Course Recommendations

Q: I am interested in the solar field, but I don’t have any experience. Where do I begin?

A: The Entry Level Solar PV Training course is a great place to start. This introductory course covers the fundamentals of solar energy, electricity, and design and installation of solar panels. The Entry Level Solar PV class is available online and qualifies you to take the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) PV Entry Level Exam.

Q: I am interested in becoming a solar installation contractor. What class do you recommend?

A: The Entry Level Solar PV Training is the recommended first course as it covers the vital foundation for understanding solar photovoltaics (PV) and is a prerequisite for the more advanced Solar PV Installer class. Both courses prepare you for NABCEP exams. The Solar PV Installer course involves hands-on training and will expose you to building a 1 kW solar array.

Q: Can I take the Solar PV Installer course completely online?

A: Because the hands-on training is required, this class cannot be completed with online training only.

Q: What solar training courses do you offer?

A: Everblue has four solar training courses available: Entry Level Solar PV Training, Solar PV Installer, and Solar Sales Professional.

Q: What is solar heating?

A: Solar heating refers to the heating of water using solar energy. This thermal energy (heat) minimizes the expense of electricity or fossil fuel to heat the water and reduces the associated environmental impacts. Heating water by means of solar energy has great customer appeal because it has one of the quickest payback periods of all renewable energy technologies.

Q: How is Solar PV different from Solar Heating?

A: Solar photovoltaics (PV) is a method of generating electrical power by converting solar radiation into direct current electricity using semiconductors that exhibit the photovoltaic effect. The solar PV process involves solar panels composed of solar cells. Solar heating involves solar energy as a means of heating water and does not require the use of solar panels. Solar heating is more efficient than solar PV and is more applicable to the average homeowner. For more information about solar energy, please review our Solar & Wind Overview page.

Before & After Class

Q: Is there any financial assistance available for Everblue’s solar training courses?

A: If you are unemployed, you may qualify for government funding through your local workforce center and the Workforce Investment Act. For specific questions, please call us at 800-460-2575.

Q: Are payment plans available, and must I pay in full before class starts?

A: Yes, payment plans are available. A $595 down payment will reserve your seat in the Solar PV Installer course. You can make progress payments at any time. The balance of the course fee is required prior to the start of the class.

Q: Do I need to purchase any additional materials before the Solar PV Associate class or bring anything with me to class?

A: Everything you need is provided, including online resources, a course manual, a take-home solar kit, and practice exam questions. You should bring a pen or pencil for note-taking, which may be done in your course manual.

Q: What type of certificate will I receive after the class?

A: You will be issued a certificate of completion from Everblue. Upon passing a NABCEP exam, you will receive the corresponding certificate from NABCEP indicating that you are certified.

Q: Does Everblue provide job placement after completion of all required courses?

A: No, we do not provide job placement, although we do frequently refer students to job openings with our partners and customers. We have many great hiring success stories. To see a listing of open job positions, please visit our Job Board

About NABCEP Certification

Q: What are the different types of NABCEP exams, and how do I qualify for them?

A: NABCEP has two “levels” of exams: Entry Level and the advanced certification level. Everblue’s Entry Level Solar PV Training will qualify a student for the NABCEP PV Entry Level Exam. Everblue’s advanced solar classes (the Solar Sales Professional and the Solar PV Installer) qualify for some of the training hours required for the NABCEP PV Technical Sales Exam and the NABCEP PV Installer Exam. Please visit the NABCEP website for the comprehensive list of qualifying paths to the advanced certification exams.

Q: How do I register for the NABCEP exam?

A: Once a student has successfully completed all of the training and activities associated with the Entry Level Solar PV Training class, he or she is eligible for the NABCEP PV Entry Level Exam. To apply for that exam, one must fill out the NABCEP Candidate Eligibility Form and email it to Everblue's program manager (ryanb@everbluetraining.com). Once this form has been received and the $120 exam fee has been paid, the student’s application will be uploaded to NABCEP. Shortly thereafter, the student will be connected to a testing center so a convenient exam time and place can be scheduled.

Wind Training

Q: Do I need to have an electrical background for wind energy?

A: This wind energy course teaches you about the components, site assessments, financials, and the practicality of wind energy. You do not need to be an electrician or have electrical experience to complete this training.

Q: I would be interested in learning more about wind energy, but I have a major fear of heights. Will this be a hindrance?

A: Our wind energy training will teach you that the majority of the work for designing and selling these systems occurs on the ground.
